The LRE Foundation is a growing international, inclusive network that connects people and organizations dedicated to preserving and valorising the tangible and intangible cultural heritage related to World War II, its memory, and meaning. The LRE Forum is a key event in the Foundation's mission and this year offers a multi-day programme filled with activities. Some of these are reserved for members and partners of the LRE Foundation, such as the LRE Member Seminar, the LRE Gala and guided visits to significant historical sites in and around Krakow.

Of particular note for the general public are two key events open to everyone: the LRE Conference and the LREXPO.

The LRE Conference: Resistance to Oblivion - Preserving WWII Memories and Lessons for Future Generations

The LRE Conference, which will be held on March 11 at the Jagiellonian University Collegium Novum, starting at 14:00, aims to inspire reflection and dialogue on the importance of WWII remembrance and its relevance in today’s world. The conference is a must-attend event for anyone interested in history, memory studies, and the challenges of preserving war heritage for future generations.

The conference will feature a range of speakers, including Yuriy Savchuk, Director of Ukraine's WWII Museum in Kyiv, who will open the event with a keynote address on the persistent problems of safeguarding wartime remembrance amidst conflict. Additionally, Andrzej Kacorzyk, Director of International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust, and Victor-Jan Vos, Director Collections and Services, Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide studies (NIOD) will discuss the topic "Memory in a Challenged World. Preservation, Exploration, and Responsibility". The event will also include an interview with Tania Szabo - daughter of SOE member Violette Szabo, Karolina Maczek - granddaughter of General Maczek and Noemie Lopian, daughter of the Holocaust survivors, who will share their experiences inheriting and interpreting WWII memories.

The LREXPO

The LREXPO, scheduled for 12 March 2025 from 9:00 AM at the Krzysztofory Palace (Museum of Krakow), will bring together representatives from museums, memorial sites, cities, and regions, offering a unique platform to connect with stakeholders in the travel industry within a culturally rich and international setting. If you are a tour operator or tourism professional, this is the place to be: the LREXPO provides a valuable occasion to discover new destinations, collaborations, and experiences to enhance existing travel itineraries or find inspiration to create entirely new ones.
