Kraków Fortress-themed ‘Guide Badges’ given out

During the celebration of World Tourism Day on Tuesday, 27 September, graduates of guide courses received their certificates during an official graduation ceremony. This year, the ranks of certified tourist guides in Kraków grew by 25 newcomers.

During the meeting at the Kraków City Hall, Elżbieta Kantor –head of the Department of Tourism – and the representatives of the Federation of Guide Associations and the City Guide Club at the Kraków Branch of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society also presented Guide Badges. The celebration started with an opening lecture about Kraków’s forts given by Dr Krzysztof Wielgus, an expert in defensive architecture.

In line with long-standing tradition, the new guides will invite the residents of Kraków to join them on free tours. This year, in connection with the development of the Kraków Fortress as a tourist product, the guides will offer an opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the remnants of the ‘Lubicz’ bastion No. 5. The guides will showcase the secrets and the details connected with the construction and the use of the building, which constitutes a part of the Kraków Fortress Trail.
