On 19 September, TreeTags - special labels that present information on the benefits of trees growing in our surroundings - were hung on selected trees across Europe. In Krakow, two trees were selected for the campaign - a pedunculate oak in Jordan Park and a pedunculate oak in Krakow’s Planty Park (growing near the Florian Straszewski monument).
The goal of the campaign, initiated by Pius Floris Boomverzorging and coordinated in Poland by Nature-Based Tree Management, is to draw attention to the importance of trees for the environment and human health.
The posters provided information about a particular tree: how much rainwater it captures, how much pollution and how much oxygen it produces. The larger the crown of a tree, the more significant the ecosystem service it provides.
Nine organisations from various European countries are participating in the campaign, and several partners are also joining in, including local tree managers, community organisations or schools that tag trees in their area with TreeTag.
If you want to support the campaign, take a photo of yourself by a tree with TreeTag and post it on social media, tagging it with the hashtag #EUTreeTag.
