New Plastics Recycling Plant

A Municipal Waste Recycling Facility is being built in the area of Igołomska and Cementowa Streets, on a post-industrial site in Nowa Huta. The opening of the Plastics Recycling Plant on 30 September marked the completion of the first phase of this Project.

The launch of the Plastics Recycling Plant enables film recycling to be carried out as part of the Integrated Municipal Waste Management System in Krakow, and the obtained regranulate can be used, among others, to make plastic bags or containers, with the processing line allowing for the production of 10,000 mg of regranulate per year.

The opening of the first phase of the investment took place on 30 September, during which Aleksander Miszalski, the Mayor of Krakow, highlighted the importance of this project for recycling and municipal waste management in Krakow.

The construction of the Municipal Waste Recycling Facility in Krakow is another very important step in implementing the Circular Economy, and once the plans are implemented in full, Krakow will have a complex of modern, fully automated waste processing facilities using innovative technologies and the latest developments in automation and robotics.

The Municipal Cleaning Company in Krakow (MPO Krakow) started building the Municipal Waste Recycling Facility in March 2023 on the post-industrial site of the ArcelorMittal Poland Steelworks, covering an area of almost 7 hectares. The Plastics Recycling Plant was built first, along with a storage hall, and a building with social space and administration and office rooms, a gatehouse, and the necessary technical infrastructure.

The total cost of building the Plastics Recycling Plant amounts to PLN 245 million.

For the implementation of the first phase of the Municipal Waste Recycling Facility in Krakow, MPO Krakow obtained co-financing from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in the amount of:

PLN 149,550,000 in the form of a loan,

PLN 30,000,000 in the form of a grant.
