Kraków wins Green Changer award

Climate change requires decisive action – Kraków is committed to concrete solutions and has been rewarded for this. During the PRECOP conference in Katowice, our city was honored with the Green Changer award in the “Cities” category. The award was received on behalf of the Mayor of Kraków by Ewa Całus, the city's climate representative.

The Green Changer Award recognizes individuals and organizations that have made a significant contribution to protecting our planet and combating climate change over the past year. This year's winners also include: WWF Blue Patrol, Szymon Bujalski, Wiktor Kotowski, Marcin Popkiewicz, and PreZero Polska.

In the “City” category, Kraków was recognized for developing the Climate Contract for Kraków—a comprehensive document that sets out the goals and actions necessary to achieve climate neutrality. The contract describes the city's goals and ambitions, commitments and climate declarations, as well as a list of actions and how to implement them. What is more, the document includes an investment plan that outlines cost scenarios, potential sources of financing, and possible barriers and risks associated with the implementation of the objectives.

The justification for the award also highlighted the city's contribution to climate education, implemented, among others, by the Kraków Climate Education Center, as well as its holistic approach to climate challenges specific to the urban environment.
