It’s that time of year again when to make the most of the spring weather and some additional days off we like to spend time close to nature, often by the water. In our search for pristine nature, we often come across unpleasant surprises – in rivers, lakes and other water bodies, as well as along their banks. Illegally dumped bags with rubbish, barbecue leftovers, and traces of detergents used to wash cars that leave multicolor film floating on the surface of the water. Such views can ruin your well-deserved relaxation. That’s why we would like to remind everybody that we are all responsible for taking care of the waters.

The 8th edition of the cycling campaign "Cycling to work, i.e. home, bike, work...and repeat" was launched on 1 March. The Krakow Convention Bureau and the Department of Tourism are taking part!

The water in Krakow’s taps is commonly available, environmentally friendly, and much cheaper than bottled water. And most importantly, it is of high quality and is continuously monitored.

On 6 December 2023, the Krakow City Council passed a resolution adopting and implementing the Sustainable Mobility Plan for the Krakow Metropolis and its functional area.

How to overcome barriers in the energy transition of Polish cities? What tools can support this process? What should the transformation manual to be developed under the project contain? The participants of a recent NEEST project workshop looked for answers to these questions, among others.

Małgorzata Marcińska, President of the Management Board of Arena Krakow S.A., joins us for an interview, in which she talks about the solutions implemented at the venue in line with the sustainability goals, outlines how the management policy of TAURON Arena Krakow has changed over the course of nearly 10 years, and shares insights about the projects the largest sports and entertainment hall in Poland is involved in.

Delegations from almost 200 countries, including Poland, are taking part in the discussions. In total, some 70 000 people are attending the 28th edition of the summit, including: ministers, negotiators, activists, industrialists and religious leaders. The summit will last until 12 December this year.

In 2023, the GDS project saw significant growth. The GDS-Index featured 100 destinations from 11 countries around the world, including as many as 42 new cities, sending a clear message of willingness to cooperate and change. 86% of the destinations improved their previous performance.

In connection with our city’s accession to the Cities Race to Zero campaign and to the Covenant of Mayors on Climate and Energy*, Krakow has been reporting on climate change adaptation and mitigation activities through the CDP-ICLEI since 2022.
