Climate Pact
Krakow has been consistently pursuing climate neutrality for years, by implementing sectoral programmes in various areas, for instance to increase renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and access to transportation. Representatives of all communities, local self-government organisations, businesses and residents are invited to participate in climate and environment initiatives.
Entrepreneurs play an important role in the process of climate transformation in Krakow in order to achieve this ambitious goal. Krakow appreciates and supports this effort, and encourages long-term cooperation in this area, and creating a platform to share experiences between businesses involved in climate initiatives, and ultimately reducing emissions from their business activity.
To this end, an initiative addressed to entrepreneurs was conceived in Krakow, officially commenced at a meeting with representatives of the Krakow City Office, including Deputy Mayor Andrzej Kulig, who told the participants about the ongoing and planned measures taken to support the climate and natural environment. The participants included representatives of nine companies, among others from the energy, fuel and new technology industries - Aptiv Services Poland S.A., ASTOR, BP Polska, Cisco, Columbus Energy, Konfederacja Lewiatan, Krakow Technology Park, PGE Energia Ciepła and Shell Business Operation Krakow.
During the meeting, representatives of these companies had the opportunity to present their own good practices and environmental initiatives, proving that the companies that positively responded to the city’s initiative had a good understanding of the compelling need to intensify efforts taken to improve the quality of the environment, which is key to creating a safe and healthy place to work and rest for all residents. They represent a great potential and a promise that a green Krakow will soon be reality through the joint efforts of the local government, businesses and other key communities in the city.
We are extremely grateful to all the entrepreneurs participating in the first meeting for accepting our invitation. The project was designed as a long-term plan, so we also would like to extend this invitation to other businesses in Krakow that care about the city and its residents. We encourage you to join the emerging Climate Pact. To do so, contact the Project Coordinator – Ms. Małgorzata Malina, tel.: 12 616 65 25; malgorzata.malina@um.krakow.pl
This initiative is aimed at the business community in Krakow, in line with the municipal strategy for reaching climate neutrality as soon as possible through a fair transformation, and with expectations of residents expressed in the course of work over the first Krakow Climate Panel, which were written down in 32 recommendations. In the view of the representative group participating in the Panel, an important action to be taken soon should be creating a space for cooperation and dialogue on the climate transformation in Krakow, taking into account diverse stakeholders and maintaining transparent actions.
