EU funding to protect biodiversity in Krakow
Krakow has received funding in the amount of PLN 2.6 million for the protection of biodiversity in naturally valuable areas, enabling the preservation of the pond at Kaczeńcowa Street, Park Zakrzówek and Łąki Nowohuckie.
The Project includes conservation measures in areas of natural value in Krakow, and aims to counteract the factors and phenomena causing biodiversity to deteriorate:
restoration and protection of habitats in areas of natural value, including xerothermic grasslands, fresh and wet meadows, aquatic and rush plant communities
prevention of shallowing, disappearance and excessive eutrophication of water bodies
removal of invasive plants and encouragement of competing native species.
Implementation of the whole project will cost slightly over PLN 3 million, of which almost PLN 2.6 million come from the European Union.
