Krakow joins the European TreeTag Campaign!

On 19 September, TreeTags - special labels that present information on the benefits of trees growing in our surroundings - were hung on selected trees across Europe. In Krakow, two trees were selected for the campaign - a pedunculate oak in Jordan Park and a pedunculate oak in Krakow’s Planty Park (growing near the Florian Straszewski monument).

Climate education off the charts

On 15 October 2024, Premier Hotel at 14a Opolska Street will host the Climate Education Off the Charts Conference. Intended for primary, secondary, local government and non-government schoolteachers, as well as environmental and climate educators, it offers lectures and workshops aimed at presenting a holistic approach to climate change in education, with a focus on non-formal tools that support formal teaching methods.
EU funding to protect biodiversity in Krakow

Krakow has received funding in the amount of PLN 2.6 million for the protection of biodiversity in naturally valuable areas, enabling the preservation of the pond at Kaczeńcowa Street, Park Zakrzówek and Łąki Nowohuckie.
European Union climate policy to be continued

The EU reached 50% of its electricity production from renewable sources in the first half of 2024, according to figures presented at a meeting of the European Parliament on 18 July, with investments in clean technologies more than tripling during the last EU term. Additionally, green hydrogen investments are becoming increasingly popular in Europe, more than in the US and China combined. In recent years, the EU has concluded 35 new clean technology, hydrogen and critical raw material deals with global partners.
Plastic recycling plant to start operating soon

A Municipal Waste Recycling Facility is being built in Krakow, and the first phase of the project, a plastic recycling plant, already has all the required operating permits. Testing and calibration of technological equipment is currently underway, and the facility will be able to begin operating soon.
7. BNP Paribas Green Film Festival

The BNP Paribas Green Film Festival is an international environmental film festival held in Krakow since 2018. It is the only environmental film festival in Poland, and one of the largest in the world. Each year, during the seven-day festival, approximately 50 films entered in the competition, and dozens of other films, are shown.
Reasons for decarbonisation in the meetings industry

On 2 July 2024, Krakow5020 and the Carbon Footprint Foundation together held a press conference “Reasons for decarbonisation in the meetings industry?” at the ICE Krakow Congress Centre. The conference was a chance to present “Decarbonisation Strategy. From WHY to Offset.” This document was recently prepared by members of the Krakow Network, an initiative that brings together representatives of the MICE industry in Krakow.
Mercure Krakow Fabryczna City receives Green Key Certificate

The Mercure Krakow Fabryczna City hotel, a part of Accor Group, has joined a small group of hotels in Poland with Green Key certification. Green Key is an international certification programme for tourist facilities that meet international criteria for environmental responsibility, fostering environmental awareness among consumers and employees, and cooperation with the local community. It is a promise given by hotels to their guests that a particular facility will take steps to protect the environment.
