‘The Climate City Contract for Krakow’ is a strategic document that was developed as part of the EU’s Mission ‘100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030’, which Krakow joined in 2022. Krakow is on its way to becoming climate-neutral.

Replacement/removal of heat sources and thermal modernisation in 110 single-family buildings in the Municipality of Krakow. A task co-financed from the state budget under: “Agreement No. 4/2021/Krakow for the co-financing of low-emission projects from the funds of the Thermo-Modernisation and Renovation Fund.”

A Municipal Waste Recycling Facility is being built in the area of Igołomska and Cementowa Streets, on a post-industrial site in Nowa Huta. The opening of the Plastics Recycling Plant on 30 September marked the completion of the first phase of this Project.

For years, Krakow has advocated the introduction of a tourism levy in Poland by amending the Act on Local Taxes and Fees, and on 9 October, councillors unanimously decided to forward a resolution on this matter to the Polish government.

During the summer holidays, between June and August, Krakow welcomed more than 4.5 million visitors, and with the high tourist season coming to an end, it is the perfect moment to summarise the city’s activities in this regard.

On 19 September, TreeTags - special labels that present information on the benefits of trees growing in our surroundings - were hung on selected trees across Europe. In Krakow, two trees were selected for the campaign - a pedunculate oak in Jordan Park and a pedunculate oak in Krakow’s Planty Park (growing near the Florian Straszewski monument).

On 15 October 2024, Premier Hotel at 14a Opolska Street will host the Climate Education Off the Charts Conference. Intended for primary, secondary, local government and non-government schoolteachers, as well as environmental and climate educators, it offers lectures and workshops aimed at presenting a holistic approach to climate change in education, with a focus on non-formal tools that support formal teaching methods.

Krakow has received funding in the amount of PLN 2.6 million for the protection of biodiversity in naturally valuable areas, enabling the preservation of the pond at Kaczeńcowa Street, Park Zakrzówek and Łąki Nowohuckie.
