European Astronomical Society Annual Meeting 2023, Kraków 10-14 July

With more than 25 years of history, the EAS Annual Meeting is the largest conference of European Astronomy. The EAS 2023 will bring together over 1500 professional astronomers and will showcase the latest advancements in astronomy. Over the 5 days of the conference, the meeting will feature 15 two-day symposia, 30 one-day Special Sessions, plenary lectures, several EAS prize talks, community reports, opening and closing ceremonies, and social events. A stimulating environment for the exchange of ideas and views of astronomy and related technologies.

This year, being the 550th anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus, and the 100th anniversary of the Polish Astronomical Society, the EAS 2023 will be held in Krakow.

The meeting will conclude with a popular lecture given by the discoverer of the first extrasolar planets, Prof. Aleksander Wolszczan. The lecture, entitled PLANETY POZA UKŁADEM SŁONECZNYM: 30 LAT PÓŹNIEJ, will take place on July 14, 2023 at 7:00 pm in ICE Krakow. The lecture will be given in Polish. Professor Wolszczan will talk about the history of the search for planets outside the Solar System, recall his (quite surprising at the time) discovery of a planetary system around a "dead" neutron star, as well as the finding of the first planet orbiting a Sun-like star. He will also summarize the current state of extrasolar planet research and future plans.

Those wishing to attend the lecture are asked to apply at: eas2023@oa.uj.edu.pl. Without an application, entry will be possible in case of free seats.
