News from Krakow

We come to the KRAKDENT® Trade Fair because we want to meet – in this one short sentence lies the essence of the success of the 28^th International Dental Trade Fair KRAKDENT®, the largest trade show for dentists, dental technicians, hygienists and dental assistants in Poland, which took place on April 7-9 in the EXPO Kraków.

On 4-10 April 2022, Auditorium Maximum of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków hosted the 29^th edition of the Quark Matter International Conference. The main organisers of this event were: the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University; the Henryk Niewodniczański Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science of the Stanisław Staszic AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków.

The challenges facing Krakow today include counteracting the effects of a pandemic and rebuilding tourism, also in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine. The Mayor assures that our involvement in the conflict in Ukraine is all about helping. Kraków is a safe city and is open to all visitors from home and abroad.

Kraków has been a place to live for many Ukrainians for years. We estimated that about 60-70 thousand Ukrainian citizens live here. In the last six weeks, 150,000 people escaping from the war have arrived in Kraków. To host refugees is a huge effort and challenge for the city. Since the beginning of the war municipal institutions, residents and volunteers have been involved in the aid to people of Ukraine. Also international aid comes to Kraków, and it is either delivered to refugees living in our city or sent via Kraków to cities and institutions in Ukraine.

On Monday, 28 March, the ICE Krakow Congress Centre hosted the 3rd International Conference Historical Cities 3.0. Its title was ‘Tourist-Friendly Cities - In Search of a New Model of Attractiveness’. The event had an online format and was devoted to changing the approach of historical cities towards tourism recovery strategies in the context of current affairs and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Within the framework of strengthening Polish French cooperation, members of the French Rotary Clubs came to the Krakow City Hall on March 25th. The guests were welcomed by Bogusław Kośmider, Deputy Mayor of the City of Krakow.

The aim of the HospitalityHelps platform is to provide temporary hotel accommodation to people from Ukraine who were forced to leave their homes due to the war. The website connects these people with hotels from many countries - including Poland - providing several free nights of accommodation.

The jury of the 10th MP Power Awards® has announced the golden three in the MP Power 12 poll - that is, it has named the nominees for Power 2021.

An update on the aid activities of Kraków and the Małopolska Region. The voivode's office has invited mayors and district chiefs to work together to create a Regional Coordination Centre for Ukrainian Aid. The aim of the initiative is to prepare aid depots in each poviat. The actions taken will also concern services connected with transport and accommodation.
